The Southern Elements fiber optic power meter is able to simultaneously test the fiber optic signal level of your installation. It is an essential and ideal tool for the construction and maintenance of any fiber project.
The power meter is used to give you a dB or mW reading from the light levels on your fiber network. This Power Meter will work on multi mode and single mode networks. It will allow you to test specific wavelengths (850, 980, 1300, 1310, 1490, 1550nm). The power meter will provide you with readings that can let you determine how much loss is in your connection (It will not provide distance measurments).
The unit does allow you to set a refrence dB level. Which will allow the device to caclulate what your losses are exactly. It will provide an refrenced dB loss value as well as an overall dBm reading.
(dB quantifies the ratio between two values, whereas dBm expresses the absolute power level. dBm is always relative to 1mW, while dB is relative to other readings.)
The power meter can also operate (default) with an auto off function or with a stay on function. The screen has a light button allowing for iluminating readings in a dark environment.
*[Often the power meter is incorrectly referred to as a PON meter, a PON meter is actually a diffrent type of meter but power meters can be mistaken for PON meters.]
