OTDR Launch Cable – Single Mode

Description

The launch cable is utilized when testing with an OTDR to remove any dead zones or aid with identifying issues at the point the OTDR connects to the fiber. For all OTDR tests a launch cable and receiving cable are recommended but not required for testing your fiber. When choosing your launch cable you want to ensure that your connector types are an exact match for what your OTDR uses and your fiber cable is terminated with. This is essential to ensure your tests provide correct values and will help identify values for attenuation points as well as distances.
Ensuring your connectors are thoroughly cleaned before each test is also highly recommended to ensure the best results.
The launch cables supplied by Southern Elements are provided in 150m, 500m and 1,000m lengths. Though custom lengths can be requested.
 

• 150m lengths are recommended for testing short distance connections, anything 1km or less.
• 500m lengths are recommended for testing anything between 1km and 5km.
• 1km lengths are recommended for testing anything between 5km and higher.

 
Our launch cables can be supplied in different connector configurations including LC/UPC, LC/APC, SC/UPC, SC/APC, ST/UPC, FC/UPC, FC/APC, E2000/UPC and E2000/APC.
The fiber strand used in our launch cable is a Single Mode 9/125μ G657A1 strand of fiber.
The 500m & 1,000m launch cables are provided in a waterproof carrying case while the 150m is supplied in an easy to carry hoop casing. Both include a carabiner and the 500m / 1km include a soft carry bag.
