Media converters can also be applied to extend the life of the existing fiber optics and cabling while running in-line with older or upgraded equipment. As a result they can be used as a method to upgrade a portion of the network, instead of costly across-the-board upgrades,

The RJ45 (copper ethernet) to SC Duplex (fiber) converter will allow the transport of data between mediums without any interferance or packet alteration/inspection.

This device will accept a standard RJ45 connector and has the speed capability of auto negatiating on ethernet from 10Mbps, 100Mbps and 1Gbps.

While the fiber tranciever is built into the device, eliminating the need for an SFP module. The connector type used is an SC/UPC duplex fiber connector, allowing for TX and RX on diffrent strands of fiber.

The speed for the fiber connection is fixed at 1Gbps and will not be backwards compatible with older 100Mbps media converters.

Similarly the wavelength used by the media converter is 1310nm, this will allow functionality for both Multi Mode and Single Mode.

Range on the fiber side is 20km for Sinlge Mode and 300m for Multi Mode.

LED indicators on the media converter can indicate ethernet link speed, fiber link activity and power.
